Looks like a normal mm for a 1979 s to me. The business strikes all had the blobby, indistinct mintmark as far as I know. 1979 s proofs are a different matter, but even then, the blob is the common one.

I've looked for an example of a Blob (filled S) only found examples of filled D mint no S. Does anyone know where I can see an example of a S blob (filled S)

Well. Google 1979 s SBA, and ignore the proofs. 100 million plus examples exist.

OMM's stopped in 1955 so it can not be that. Here is a good link to research http://smalldollars.com/

CHB to the CCF!

the header states 1999 S but in the comments, you state it is a 1979 S.
i am guessing that the header is incorrect; EDIT information please.

GOING to comment as if it were a 1979 S.

1979 S has two different mint mark styles for the year and looks like mms-001. http://www.varietyvista.com/14%20SB...20Styles.htm

i stand corrected by Numiscrat...
the different mint marks pertain to proofs.
thanks

My question is related to my comment above:

The OP's coin appears to be a business strike. Mms-001 on Variety Vista is what I so elegantly referred to as the "blob". Is mms-002, the clear S, even known for the business strikes? I thought that mms-002 was only found among the 1979s proofs?

Looked but could not find the 100 MM examples only 109,576,000 Minted None of the examples I saw were not close enough to really be able to compare. Sorry about the 1999 versus 1979 mistake.
