Just found this pretty crude example of an altered 1948 to look like a 1943 copper. It'll go in my counterfeit collection but thought it worth posting.

Yeah that 3 is way off . But I bet it would have fooled a newbie .

They are very few. Probably less than 50 of each. What ever was in the loader when they changed over on each machine those years. These are faked more often because of the value of these. So if you find one, be cautious before buying them. Make sure they are graded and legit.
