Going through some of the coins I was given. I ran across this little oddity. It is a small raised area just below the steps. I have looked at lot of coins over the years and never seen a die chip here.
I agree die chip seems unlikely based on location. On that flat field there is no edge, corner, or other stress riser for a chip to start. Maybe struck from a damaged die?

LOL I Know For the first time in a very long time I just found a 1972-D DDo-6. Lesson is though I look though a valley of cent I will someday find a keeper.
