Found this in my grandfathers coin collection. Don't even know where to start my research into it. Any suggestions or theories would be greatly appreciated!

@new, first welcome to CCF. Second, as this appears to be a made-for-jewelry Alexander Tet, I'm going to move your thread over to the ancients subforum. We have a bunch of folks there who will know more. In the meanwhile, can you please also post a pic of the other side of this piece, ideally without the remnant band? I've taken the liberty of cropping and lightening your first pic. Thx.

Welcome. Yes, looks like a base metal copy (cast, most likely) of perhaps the most famous ancient silver type, with Herakles wearing a lion skin headdress on the obverse, and Zeus seated left on a throne, holding an eagle, on the reverse. Although the general type is heavily faked, in this case it's probably as Spence suggests, "made-for-jewelry" with no real attempt at fakery. More of a celebration of an iconic ancient coin, I suspect.
