Contact marks on the incuse letters on the edge of the coin. The contact marks are not as deep as the incuse devices on the outside edge of the coin. Just a damaged coin.

Edge lettering is applied after the coins are struck and can be anywhere between weak and heavy. They are also exposed to a lot of contact.
