A little late to this thread, but just to further clarify, not "strike through," but "strike doubling." The planchet--for a loose collar, or for any number of other reasons--slipped or hopped when it was struck by the dies, and that's what's showing off the profile as "doubling." It is doubling, it's just not off the die, but was created by the strike. It can show anywhere on the coin. Report this Post to the Staff
