Is This A Known Mercury Dime Error? (194x)

FlyingTiger Valued Member United States 152 Posts	Posted 03/11/2021 6:25 pm I can't find any information on this Mercury dime I have. What would this type of error be called? Could it be the only one known? Could it have any value? I have seen some Mercury error coins going for a few hundred or even thousands. Any information would be helpful. FlyingTiger Valued Member United States 152 Posts	Posted 03/11/2021 6:36 pm I looked at it very close with a jewelers loop and the last two digits of the date are missing not smudged off.It does look like a 4 though.And it's a San Francisco mint mark. Report this Post to the Staff

As Bobby pointed out; fairly common on the Mercury dimes. Although, it's likely more a result of being a weak strike IMO. macmercury Pillar of the Community United States 5823 Posts	Posted 03/11/2021 7:51 pm As Bobby and Tanman says, Basically the last 2 digits of the date are close to the peripheral, the die tends to worn out quicker around it, even on some mint state coin, there are weakly strike example in that area. Circulation will quickly erode the dates. I have search through many bags of 1,000 Mercury dimes, and these are very common. Report this Post to the Staff
