I read to try to stitch images together for easier viewing. Please instruct if I'm wrong.

1988 penny with quite an odd Cud error possibly.
Looks like the letter B or number 8.

I'm thinking maybe just a Cud error that positioned itself in Lincoln's hair. Part of the upper hair region looks off.

Lookup zinc rot. A Cud involves the edge of a coin when a piece of the die chips off.

@top, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes there is a small hole in the copper plating that is allowing the underlying zinc core to start corroding. This is considered to be damage, not a mint error.


Added: Just to be clear, the hole in the copper plating might have been there during the minting process, but not the blistering from zinc corrosion.

No it happens later when the plating gets breached and allows the zinc to deteriorate.
