Kitts Suggest you learn how coins are struck and perhaps read up on what an actual error is. It is only an error if it happens during the striking of the coin, anything that happens after that is just damage. It will save you a lot of time when you know what to look for. This is a good site for identifying errors error-ref.com
Here is a great ANA video on the minting process and how errors are made. Its quite long, but a lot of valuable information to get started. Also dont get discouraged. I have saved tons of coins thinking I had something just to find out later down the road that thing I thought was an error is just damage or is common, or whatever. Its a learning thing for sure. And I'm not acting like I know it all, because I dont know close to what Id like to know. And am learning more everyday. The best thing to do is read, watch videos, ask questions, and most of all look at as many coins as you can.... Also hello, fellow new member!
Keep in mind the 'Screenshot' feature works on YouTube videos also. So if you see something you want an image of, pause the video and use the screen shot feature: From the image, which is a lot wider, can be edited with software and you can see what you are seeing on a single image: Thought I would share that with you.
Haaha its funny you said that because the first time I watched that video (yes Ive watched it more than once) I was actually watching it on my TV and not my computer, so I ended up pausing it on almost every error and variety slide and took pictures of it with my phone.. so, yeah good tip lol
Yes I will definitely check out the video thanks for the idea the only issue I have when I get stuck on a coin it is when it looks like it's a little off-center or I think I see doubling when it's really not something I can use I spent too much time looking at a coin that turns out to be nothing at all I have a bunch of coins that I've saved that have what looks like to be yours and I checked up on some of them I was going to post a whole lot more than what I just did but I wanted that see where these few went and then go from there
Regardless I appreciate your guys's help all of you if anything I'll give you guys something new to look at here and there and who knows you might see something I don't that might be important!
Man, I know exactly what you mean. If I look at a coin too long, or look at a bunch of the same denomination in a short time I can start seeing things that arent there lol. Thats when I put the coin to the side, and take a break/ look at another denomination for a while. And then come back to it with fresh eyes a little later.
I have a whole bunch of coins that I put in 2x2s when I first started out. Now that Ive learned a whole lot more, Ive gone through some of them and took them out of the 2x2s. A lot of MD, and filled in mint marks, that sort of thing. But, I have a lot more that I still need to go through, but have been procrastinating doing lol.
Its all a part of the learning man! There is an awesome youtube group too, I think its called LIVECOINQ&A or something similar. They are awesome. You email them your pics and questions, and they talk about the pictues and questions once a week on a live stream. They discuss it and are good teachers, and dont make you feel dumb about asking questions.
MODS:I hope thats ok to post about that group, if not let me know, and I apologize.
