So brought this to local coin shop and even the owner is not sure. Also I apologize for glare in pics as penny is still in mint set cellophane. He THINKS it's S/D . Has anyone else in the forum seen this? Wondering if it's worth being sent off to be properly graded and assessed. Also the reverse is a plethora of errors. Thanks to all in advance.

Please post full, sharp photos of the coin's obverse and reverse. Would help establish full context for what we're seeing. Thanks.

to CCF. Not seeing a RPM or a OMM. I see a S mint mark that took a hit in circulation.

Sgtclough to the CCF!

it looks like variety vista RPM-001http://www.varietyvista.com/02b%20L...0SRPM001.htm
and the die break on the C of AMERICA is one of the die markers.

SIDE NOTE: to best help you, it is best to post a close up picture of the date with mintmark (especially for RPMs) and NOT at an angle. also posting pictures of the whole obverse and reverse. and a close up picture of the area of concern.
good job on getting a picture of the die break on C of AMERICA.

It is the RPM-001, and as mentioned the S has taken a hit during circulation.

The mintmark took a big hit on the left side. You can see the metal movement to make it taller than all the rest of the mintmark. Coin damage.

ahhh now that makes sense... the pictures were of the roin in a MINT SET? 1970 mint set is known to have LMC RPM-001.

i would keep it in the mint set.

above average pictures for a new person posting.
