It does look doubled. I've got an '08 that looks similar. I wonder if it's the way it's suppose to look?

Duckhawk,your 97 looks like it is the Dbl.ear variety,i have found two so far,as for the photo of the 2008 I'm not at all sure, will have to wait for the pros to answer that one.

The 1997 appears to be the doubled die. The 2008 is lit incorrectly to tell much of anything. Instead of lighting the side of the ear, the face of the ear (the top of the relief) needs to be lit with shadows on the sides. That would properly show the shape of the area so overlays will work.

I believe it to be a normal coin from what I can see, though.
