I would welcome any thoughts on the grade of these two UK pennies.

I lean towards fine perhaps but the details are very good in parts and I have very limited experience so am in the process of learning.

I'd say VF for both of these. The 1853 has some minor edge bumps. The 1887 penny looks as though it's been cleaned, although this may be because you've shone a bright light at it when taking the photo.

Id give the 1853 at least a VF+ at the lowest, and the 1887 a straight VF.

EF for the '53 copper, only the slightest wear on the high points, with a nice patina, and
VF for the '87 bronze.

I'll say EF and VF, respectively, and agree a pic with less flashback on the 1887 would help in assessing whether it's been cleaned.

Almost EF for the 1853, nice coin

VF to gVF for 1887, again photos taken from above the centre of the coin are better.

Many thanks for the replies.

Yes I did shine a light on the second one, trying to highlight the detail but I recognise it does affect the colour. Good tips for my photography moving forward, and I'm hoping it's less challenging with silver coins.
