The 1849 halfcrown looks EF. I'd grade the 1844 crown as about Fine, but the edge knocks would bring it down a bit. Still a nice coin, and the halfcrown is a real stunner - they're usually found in about Fair to Fine with lots of wear.

I'll say low AU on the '49 and F on the '44 (Sheldon).

EF/GVF for the 1849. For EF, I would expect the lions in the 3rd quarter to have faces.

GF for the 1844. There's more hair and ribbon detail on the obverse and more detail on the leaves of the wreath on the reverse than you get on a F coin. Also the strings of the harp are clear.

I don't think edge knocks and the gouge in the neck affect the grade but they certainly will reduce the value a bit.

Id put the 1849 about a XF-40 and the 1844 at a F-12.

Beautiful coins, better than all my worn ones of the era. I think people are a bit harsh on the crown though.

Halfcrown - EF to gEF - some light wear on Victoria's, hair, cheek, lips, nose and wreath on obverse
Crown - gFine, quite a lot of detail, nice light colour. Remember Fine is 50% detail and VF 75% detail - this coin is around 60 - 66% detail for me. Edge Knocks - well its 175 years old - what do you expect - could have been in Fagin and Little Dorrits pocket!

1849 HC, looks like large date and 1849 is a scarce date for halfcrowns in general.
