Hi, I've had 18 OBW rolls of 73-S Cents foe several years now. Any Die varieties worth opening the rolls up for, or should I just put them on the 'bay?

Doing the math you have $9 bucks in face value of copper cents. Being that the copper content alone is worth two - three times the face value of the cents, that puts you at having a value of (I'll use 2.5 for the factor) $22.50 alone in copper (and NO, you can't melt them down, not legal, and they ain't making anymore copper pennies.......). Now, factor in the. remote possibility that IF there was a PROOF DDO in one of those rolls, depending on it's condition if was a higher Mint State, you could be looking upwards of $300 bucks for one penny (I'm using Coppercoins value for this number)..... It's a long shot but if I were you I might have to keep them and look through them. Not sure if a Proof would be in one of those rolls but I have seen stranger things. Just my opinion and 2 cents worth.

No way would there be any proofs in an OBW roll, that's absurd. Only variety known for the business strikes is WDDO-001: http://www.doubleddie.com/823881.htmlVery minor variety with little interest.

I'm sure you have better odds of getting hit by lightning than finding a proof in an OBW. Maybe I should have reworded my comment differently. Calling it "absurd", which you could have left off...... Let me add: Throw them up on ebay for say $20 bucks. If they sell then there are fees involved and then the hassle of shipping them for such a small amount of profit when in the long run copper will no doubt appreciate. Copper cents are long gone and I would rather keep all of my copper, which I do, especially for the unknown future of the Lincoln Cent. Sorry if I mislead anyone or my comment was taken the wrong way. I was simply giving my opinion.

I asked because rolls of 73-S go for a premium. I don't expect to find any proofs. I'll throw them on the bay. Thanks, For the replies!

agree with every word Tanman2001 said above. Instead of throwing them "on the bay" either keep them for another 20 years or throw them back. Not worth time or energy for the minuet profit on "the bay," in my opinion. Or trade them to members here.
