Two 1949 1 Cent Rp9, Trail Dies Or Tooling Marks?

JohnWayne007 Pillar of the Community Canada 1186 Posts	Posted 03/18/2021 4:50 pm Looking through some of my VI cents with my loupe today and came across these two 1949 with a repunched 9 and what looks to be trail dies or tooling marks in the same locations on both coins. Curious to know if these are trail dies or just tooling marks. The repunched 9 I have no doubts or questions about as it has been talked about before in a past post. SPP-Ottawa Moderator Canada 10456 Posts	Posted 03/20/2021 12:08 pm Certainly looks like trail dies, coming off the denticles. Good eye, that should be easy to spot in mint state examples. The repunched 9 is something I had spotted before, you also see a repunched 9 in the 1929 1-cent coins (search posts in this forum, for that one) The most spectacular trail dies in this series are on the over-polished reverse dies that were used for the 1951 specimen strikes. They basically took working dies and polished the heck out of them.
