1953 Wheat Penny Defective Planchet / Or PMD / Modified

Hi Guys,

I am seeking some expert knowledge on this one.

I saw this coin and defective planchet came to mind.

However, I think someone might have tired to modify the coin, the grooves on the left side reverse seem like a cutting type of tool.

The reason I bring this to question is because the penny wasn't completely cut and on the right side of the coin there is some type of major die break with the letterings being covered.

What do you think ?

When the coin is our of round on the outside edge, it has been tampered with. Just a face value coin now.

Looks like someone did a poor job of trying to cut it in two.
A defective planchet would not look like that
