I just closed my ebay and Paypal accounts. I have had enough with the new rules and all of their fees.... The last straw was when they closed my auction for a 1999 Wide AM cent because it had a "Reference to a Price guide" which was actually a link to Ken Potters site showing the differences between the Wide AM and the normal reverse. The site does have prices but it is NOT a price guide. So, I guess I will be listing all of my coins for sale right here on CCF from now on!

I am slowly shutting mine down as well.
Fees are becoming way to much, and they really do not care about sellers anymore. Buyers dictate the game.

Good for you for taking that step. I hate ebay and their stupid rules put in place this year. Specifically (for those that are not familiar): 1) No negative or neutral feedback can be given by sellers to bad buyers, only positive feedback 2) Increased fees for the smaller sellers 3) Requiring Paypal as the only form of acceptable payment (goes fully into effect on 1/15 I think) 4) Suggesting that sellers give reduced or free shipping....EBay gets their fees as a percentage of the final value and not from shipping fees, so they stand to gain if the final value is higher due to less shipping

Thanks for the feedback guys By the way...Ebay says it may take up to 180 days for my account to be closed for good AND they may contact me about my decision to close it. NOW that they are not going to make ANY money off of me they want to talk? BAH!!

They're getting some negative press at the moment due to slumping sales and people going elsewhere where it's less of a chore/headache/money drain. It's really too bad - it used to be a lot more fun to buy and sell there. I occasionally buy but I don't sell anymore... just couldn't absorb the changes they were making. I was one of the small fries Still have inventory all over the place, too.. ha! If they do contact you, give it to 'em! The more people tell them why they are now turning everyone off, the better chance they'll actually listen. (this is me being optimistic here.. )

Maybe Yahoo will start their auction site back up. I liked buying on Yahoo, never a problem. Even got to meet one seller face to face, great guy! Went by the name "rrrentman".

I say good for you! I consider our forums a superior place to buy/sell. After frequenting ebay for so long (but never selling), I still cannot grasp the growing problems of that site. Despite ebay claiming otherwise, I suspect their focus to drive volume has superseded the actual needs of end-users--buyers and sellers. Apply typical methods and get typical results.

bmanofnbc- By chance do you still have the 99 Wide AM cent available? If so, how much were you looking for on it?

I doubt Yahoo has the money anymore. Google isn't going to try it, because they make too much money off ebay's advertising (I'm not entirely sure they still search websites other than ebay, actually). Now Microsoft... I'm *really* surprised that we haven't seen an MSNAuctions site yet. Wouldn't surprise me too much to see the Craigslist guys try their hand at auctions. I wouldn't even rule out Amazon.com. ebay has really been kicking its users in the face lately... Recession or no recession, I'd bet on a serious new competitor coming on-line before 2010.

Josh, The coin belongs to a friend of mine but as far as I know he still has it...he was talking about sending it in to be slabbed last time I saw him. The bidding was up to $150.20 the day before it was scheduled to end and they pulled it down. I doubt if it would have gone much higher though... If you are interested in making an ofer I could put you in touch with him.

I'm the same guy on ebay ( wheezdog ) and my last sale was just about a year ago when I got sick of it all. Still I'll buy a little bit there though. Now our forum mom, Susan does the selling on ebay for me through consignment. She does a fantastic job despite the increasing ebay hurdles and hoops! I would love to see more coins for sale from members here on the forum. The feedback here is both in post contributions as well as in between the lines of the members posts. What a great bunch of people we have here. I do realize that many of us are also dealers as well as collectors, but there is a very special sort of all inclusive coin club atmosphere here.

I was a "small potatoes" seller on the 'bay off and on for several years, but since the inception of the new fees, and especially the ridiculous rule where a seller cannot "neg" a bad buyer, I've decided to quit ebay for good. I am hopeful that a GOOD competitor will come along, but I have my doubts. ebay seems to have all the power - and money - so a true competitor is unlikely, IMHO
