I think what rockdude was trying to say.. is to perhaps ask for some better focused pictures so we could tell what we are looking at

oh I know...

He's talking about nickles that have extremely high relief. I have a few, but I never thought they were rare.

Would anyone care to explain why they're like that?

vud091, admittedly it's hard to see from the pics, but is the coin thicker than normal? Have you measured it?

have not measured it but yes it is almost twice as thick only on rim though.

That looks like an ex-encasement piece of some sort. It's not a mint-borne error. Something was done to crimp in the edges causing the metal to fan outward, which curled the rims inward making the coin appear to have higher relief. But it's not an error, it's damage.
