Hey SwamperBob, I am really interested in all your info on what you call the Boston Counterfeits. Do you know of any reference books on those coins? What books would you suggest I read to learn about contemporary 8 reales counterfeits? What dates do you see showing up on a regular basis as those counterfeits?

The data is not yet published. That is part of my planned book. I am still in the process of gathering facts and confirming data.

I started with just a story from a very old man when I was 12. But over the years, the pieces have fallen together to the point where I have figured out how to spot the 8Rs made by at least one group involved in the trade.

The dates - 1821 and 1805 are by far the most commonly seen Boston dates followed by 1796 and 1798. I plan to publish population by date if I can gather enough examples. I have collected at least ONE of nearly every individual date from 1788 to 1821. They did target Mexico primarily but I have found isolated examples from several other mints.
