I thought so at first too, but I showed it to a friend who has been at coin collecting for several decades and he said that without a doubt it was Doubled Die. He said he saw the split serifs and notching in LIBERTY and signs of doubling on the date and mint mark..

Machine Doubling on the date, but that's all I see out of the ordinary.

I have to agree with Dearborn. Just not seeing any true doubling on this one, looks normal to me. I zoomed in on your pic of the entire obverse, particulary the date, which 'appears' to be doubled to the left of the numbers but then if you look at your close up pic of the date you can clearly see that this same area on the numbers is nothing but a reflection or glare. This is usually typical on the entire coin for this series. These newer Shield Cents are very hard to navigate and I have been fooled more than once. Some of them are so shiny and have such a reflective surface that they can fool you into thinking you have a doubled die. The majority of the Shield Cent doubled dies have very thick, fat and distorted devices.

I thought I saw some doubling on "Liberty" but I could be wrong.

Modern coins, circulation strike with DD? Hard to find. At mint they strike those penny at 750 by minute. One strike at 60 tone and the coin go, no second strike on same coin. the dies when are damage or are 85% of calculated strike life are change. On those actual times will we see some DD on specimens (2 or 3 strikes) and proofs with not more then 4 strikes.

To see exactly, because of the light reflection, I suggest to look through UV. Just pit the coin under UV and examine, there you will see exact.

MD for modern coins yes because of the speed of the production line. Theoretically if the line stop for one reason or other, DD will happened. But will be only one or some of center, then laser drive line will recalibrate her self.

To much glare, but looks MD to me (I think) (to much glare). Also please crop better. You need to put a filter over your light source. The better the phots you post, the better we can help you.

The doubled dies on these, distort the devices. I refer to them as over inflated bicycle tubes:

So on these, look for the distorted devices. Forget looking at the edges on these. The spread is on the center of the devices, distorting the devices. On these double dies, they are more distortion as the way the dies area created, the hub process, either works, or distorts on these cents.

CoopHome : Single squeeze cents. What are we looking for on these?
