Hello all. First I want to say thanks for all the help already. I am new to this and am just trying to figure out right from wrong. I want to ask a few qustions also. Thanks in advance for the answers.

1. How are you finding your errors? Do you buy bulk rolls of coins from the bank and search through each one with a loop?

2. What do you find the error average to be per coin amount searched? Just a ball park.

3. How do you get nice close pictures of the error coins? I saw on here one person was taking pictures of the Lincoln in the monument and they where so close and clear.

Thanks again for the answers and all the help you have given me so far.

I am a Lincoln Cent Roll Hound so what I do is buy one or two boxes of cents and then look at them with a 14x doublet loup.
My finds vary from roll to roll,i find maybe 10 Wheaties per box,and about 5 varieties per roll,as far as errors...few and far between.
As far as photos, my nephew has a Dino-Lite and it works GREAT,but a bit pricey.I know some other CCF members use a QX5,it cost less then $100.00...I Want One!!
Hope this helps,
John1

When I got started back in June I had a 10x loupe. Wasn't close enough. My wife had purchase a microscope a couple of yrs. back. I tried it, now it's mine. I then bought a 30x36 magnifier, works great.
As far as looking through coins go between my wife's hoard of coins and a couple of hat boxes half full of coins plus a few bank rolls now and then, I'm busy enough for now.

Most of us shoot pictures through the scope for the in close photos. I use a simple Cannon A720 camera through a 7.5X to 35X variable zoom, binocular scope. I also use a Adobe Photoshop 7 photo program, which is indispensable when doing those close in shots. Of course, lighting is essential and practice is always a help. I have shot over 10,000 pictures, which may seem like a lot, but some other people have way over that amount. I am still learning.

1. Errors are quite difficult to find. I find on average two or three per year.

2. About one in 50,000 coins searched.

3. Through the eyepiece of a microscope using a Coolpix 5200 camera. The microscope isn't the most important part, the lighting is. It has to be small enough to fit under the optics of the microscope.
