I began collecting proof sets when the State Quarter program started.
I bought sets for each of my grandchildren.

A couple of years ago I bought the boxes offered by the mint for storage of the proof sets that included the quarter sets. I think they were somewhere near $13-$14 each.

When the Presidential dollars came out in 2007 they were in a separate sleeve from the other coins. Then in 2008 they came out with all the coins in one box and now all 10 years won't fit in the storage boxes that the mint sold for them.

Anyone else have this problem? I called the mint a couple of months ago and they said they are aware of the problem and are working on a solution. I haven't heard any more from them. Any suggestions for a solution?............Thanks, Jim

The Mint currently has a 3 lens box available but that does nothing to help you unless you purchase new boxes IMO, the Mint should exchange the two lens boxes that everyone has for new 3 lens boxes but I doubt that would ever happen. I avoided the fancy schmancy Mint boxes and got this.

I have the exact same boxes that biochemist6 has and they work out quite well.

I know this won't help you, but I opted to break apart all of my sets and put the coins in Dansco albums.

I do have one intact proof set. It is an interesting coincidence that it is pictured in the link that Biokemist provided!

Don't blame the mint. How were they to know when they started offering the boxes to hold all ten sets years ago that two years before the end of the series the Congress would add four more coins to the proof set. If you have a complaint take it up with your elected representatives.

All the mint had to do was keep the presidential coins seperate like they did in 2007. In 2008 they opted to put three sets of coins in the blue mint boxes instead of the two (proof set and quarter set). The simplest solution to the problem is for them to issue new boxes that hold two sets of coins to the individuals that purchased the two lens boxes for the 10 year set.

I'm guessing, we all have more difficult and serious issues to deal with than what I'm going to do with my proof sets. Just a bit irritating that they sold them for the 10 year sets and then changed.

Thanks all for your input.

Conder,
I guess that I just place my blame on the Mint for selling items like this in the first place. I know that Congress was ultimately the entity that made the two lens boxes obsolete but should the Mint really be in the business of selling items like this Yeah, they also sold State Quarter spoons and bears but at least those actually had a coin in them, this thing just holds coins which IMO should be left to the secondary market. If they are going to sell stuff like that, then they should sell albums, airtites, and 2x2s too- one stop shopping I just have a problem with the Mint being a retailer of items that they do not produce.

I can agree with that, the Mint does not need to be in the "box business". On the other hand if the ten yar boxes had been made and sold by an outside firm would people be saying that firm should exchange the boxes they sold for new boxes that would hold everything? I don't think so, but they seem to think the mint should.
