I bought a fun lot of Sasanians from Elsen a while back and am getting to the bottom of the batch with a few that I'm really struggling to identify. In addition to the normal websites on Beast Coins, Zeno.ru, and Mallon's info on the Forvm, I'm using my copies of Göbl and Sunrise to do the attributions. This one is giving me fits though...

On the obv, the ruler has that nice round sphere on his crown, but but otherwise his crown is not similar to the Sasanians. On the rev, the fire altar is there, but with a pair of censers rather than the attendants. I note that Ardahir has this motif, but these are gimungous censers compared with anything of his that I'm seeing. Of course it might be not be Sasanian as the Kidarites, Nezaks, Hephthalites, and Gadhaiya of India also have fire altars of one type or another. The script might be Pahlavi, but is worn enough that I'm struggling to find anything meaningful.

The coin is 22 mm and 3.1 g, but with the heavy wear and hole, it easily could have been minted with a mass about 4 g.

Please let me know your thoughts. Thx!

Yes thx again for the help! I'm attributing it as Göbl I/2 and Sunshine #884.
