I just checked the PCGS price guide and apparently there are Barber quarters in PR55 and PR58 grade. I wonder how prevalent they are. I assume a PR58 would have much better eye appeal than a PR60 or PR62?

For ALL dates combined, there are only 20 graded PR55 by PCGS, and only 31 graded PR58 by PCGS. There are NONE in those grades with a plus.

My guess is that these are deep in people's collection, but I believe occasionally a couple or so may pop up.

In my opinion, I agree with you that a PR60 will likely appear all beat up, and I feel the same for a PR61. However, as a generalization I believe a PR62 could have nicer eye appeal than a PR55, and probably a PR58 as well, but naturally, that depends on the specific coins in each grade that may be available.

Happy Hunting!

I set up some alerts at several auction websites to email me when a PR55, PR58 or PR62 Barber quarter shows up.
I have seen a BQ in PR60 condition for $399. It was badly scratched but still had a cameo-like appearance.

Anyone looking to Barber quarters right now should have a look at Liz Coggan's site she has an ad running this month in the Numismatist magazine on how she is handling one of the finest AU58 sets ever built. Her search engine seems to bring up zero items on every search for me so I have to go through the coins for sale page by page, she has some real beauties up now, but going pretty fast with all her advertising running.

https://lizcoggan.com/

For those that don't know Liz, she was Dave Bowers' personal secretary for years, then worked along with Dr. Richard Bragg cataloging the Bowers/Ruddy/Merena sales. Then off to JJ Teaparty, now she now catalogs for Legend Rare Coins and has her own coin business.

I suspect the GC coin has had the cameo artificially enhanced.

C'mom we all bid on coins for 5 or 6 days till we learned how to play the game after always losing in the last seconds.Ha!Ha!Don't bid high early and run the price up.Wait till the last 18 seconds then put that good bid in.
Glad it worked out for you in the end.

Yeah hahaha snipe a bid with a quickness last 18 seconds. Tho if I want to be outbid. Put full amount I'd pay + few bucks to get winner heated when they outbid and I don't bid war.. gotta play the game. All though I hadnt played with chips that large! I think It's a scalable technique
Definitely nice to be relived of that buyers remorse lol

Slight change of focus. My classic quarters (1900-1976) will now be AU-MS, whereas all my halfs will be proofs.
