Well I must admit 2006 is off to a great start with the Nevada Statehood Quarters! I am very pleased, for a change, with the design and eye appeal this new quarter offers. Best of all---NO state outline! For the most part I think these 2006 quarters will rank among the best produced over a one year period. Looking forward to adding the upcoming designs to my collection, especially NORTH DAKOTA, as buffalos hold a very special place in my collection! |

I know how you feel about state outlines, however when my Colorado, and Old Dan's Wyoming comes out, don't you think state outlines should be included? After all, Colorado and Wyoming have such uniqure and creative borders!

I don't know why the mint just didn't make the quarters in the shape of each state and just leave them blank? We could have just felt the beauty, as we each imagine it, with our fingers and minds! Of course Idaho would be a tough fit in a vending machine and pretty nasty to carry around but it might make a great weapon when nothing else was available? Yes, those square quarters would have been great!

Sorry Sir Terry, that isn't about to happen any time soon. There were a number of designs just as you described and they all got shot down. Everyone around here thought they represented the likeness of our Govenor to closely and for that reason it wasn't acceptable. There seem to be a rule that portraits of living persons aren't allowed on the quarter designs.  |

Darn, just too many rules and regulations in the country and everyone MUST be politically correct at all times! Guess we will have to be content to collect DARKSIDE if we want variety.

I saw the Nevada quarters for the first time today, and while it's not what I think of when I think of Nevada, I still like it. Bet it's pretty in Proof!
I'm cringing at the thought of trying to put state-shaped quarters in rolls! Yikes! [:0]

I'm looking forward to seeing my first NV 25c in hand. I fed a meter an hour ago with both a WV and an OR and they were both so pretty I felt a twinge of regret feeding them. NV seems to have at least hit a triple with their design-one of my favorite "mental images" of NV was of waking up in the car at dawn ( in June 92) just N of Ely NV, because the driver had to stop for mustangs crossing the road.

Although European (and other nation's) coinage have kings and queens on the obverses, I love what most of them do with the reverses. Some of the prettiest coins I've seen are Australian and Canadian - lots of animals and variety on the reverses.  |

The train is great and anything to do with mining or the CC mint would have been attractive but I absolutely can't stand the state outlines on our coins. If I wanted outlines I could just buy a map so I see no purpose what so ever to add very boring outlines to distract from a potential outstanding, award winning design. Looking back at our quarter series I can't help but wonder who in the world was in charge of Michigan's hideous design. Those folks up there don't live in the Great Lakes and there is NOT a doubt in my mind SOMETHING would have better served the people of that great state than a bunch of squiggly lines. At least they didn't sell their quarter to a private business and sporting facility to use as an official souvenier or business promotion. Only Indiana could pull that one off!!!

My Dad is a retired geologist. He spent a lot of time in Nevada and I went with him sometimes. The Great Basin topography is unique in the world and a place of great interest to geologists. The terrain shown on the design I did is real USGS digital elevation data. Here is the explanation from my web site: Nevada's unique Great Basin topography symbolizes the state's geologic importance. The famous Virginia & Truckee locomotive #18 (the "Dayton") served Nevada during the great gold & silver mining boom, and is reminiscent of the Silver State's "Wild, Wild West". You know dgoose, until just recently I would have agreed with you on this statement, but now I'm not sure I could say this and mean it. All of a sudden, I have been looking at a large display of very beautiful and artistic coins from the so called 'dark side' and believe me when I tell you, some day you just got to take at least a peek. Oh by the way, watch it for a couple of dark siders around this forum, as they will do everything within their power to turn you head. Be allert at all times. |
