Hello all,

I don't have much in the way of a good coin collection. I have them from when I was a kid. for the most part. Below are two recent itms I found in change and the other two pennies are for my coins collection as a kid.

1985 U.S. Penny found in change recently, it's not copper it has a silver color to it and I am not sure what that means...

2006 U.S. Dime found in change, looks like a piece of it is missing but when I look at the flat edge I can see the lines.

These two I have no clue....

U.S. Penny #1...

U.S. Penny #2...

If you know why these are this way or what they are I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,

The first coin appears to be plated aftermarket.
The other three are just damaged. Possibly someone
trying to create error coins.

In the future to avoid confusion, please post one coin per thread.

Thank you JimmyD.

So much for collecting coins as a kid or thinking I found an oddball in the change in my pocket... :)

Next time I will break them up into different posts.

Thanks again,

2 is just damage plus abrasion to create the flat area, 3 and 4 are vise jobs. I expect you're correct about the vise jobs being intentional fake errors.

Coins can be damaged in many ways, accidentally or deliberately. When you see a strange looking coin, try to imagine how it could be made to look like that with simple tools like pliers, cutters, hammer, and so forth. Just because you would never do it proves nothing. Coins are vandalized, dropped, run over and buried great regularity.

Ty for the additional information. It completely makes sense. I can see how people would damage coins intentionally and non-intentionally.

Thanks again!

Dealing with just your first coin to avoid confusion, I too feel it looks plated, perhaps with silver or nickel.

to the CCF!
