I was recently going through my Grans things and found these coins that were made into cufflings. After hours of research I still have no idea what to make of them , any info would be greatly appreciated.

The S of South Carolina is backwards on the coin and I still have no idea what Luca Giordano has to do with South Carolina.

Thanks!

to CCF. Give it a bit and members will help. It does not look like a coin to me, maybe a medal or token?

South Carolina was first settled by the British in 1670, so I guess that part is accurate. But I'm not sure how Luca Giordano fits in the picture...

@f3l, on your second pic, there seems to be an out-of-focus element near the center of the coin. Can you please provide a little more detail about what you have there? Thx.

Looks like it might be the post of the cufflink.

Agree with Zurie - what is the connection with Luca Giordano?

No connection to the painter. He was not even active in 1670 (at least not notable). Perhaps the person who made these cufflinks just stuck together a messed up South Carolina medal (complete with the backward S) as a backing for the painter's image made of the same material by the same people. Why would anyone want to decorate the invisible part of a cufflink anyway?
