This was advertised as a 1970 proof set. After looking at it under the scope I believe it has been tampered with. I'm looking for your thoughts. There are many pictures but I'm just going to post one coin per post. These coins are very shiny and were difficult to get clear shots.

I have never in my life heard of fake proof sets. This is certainly not gonna be the first.

1970 proof sets go for about $10 on ebay at the moment. Counterfeiting them would give very little bang for your buck.
I'm not seeing anything suspicious from the pictures.

Please look at the left side of the penny and tell me what that is inside of the case?

Those are cracks in the plastic case. Looks like some spotting on some of the coins, like they weren't stored in the best of conditions.

I wouldnt put it past people to cherry pick proof sets and then consolidate what's left back into sets to resell. Just saying...

Recently had to crack coins out of a 1968 proof set because some had gone hazy while others were pristine. I figured it was a broken seal and environmental issues.

Guessing just environmental damage from a damaged case or faulty seal.

Although these sets are sealed shut, they are not air tight. This set was not stored properly and that environment was able to affect the coins.

I see nothing wrong. As usual, the coins have toned inside the case due to poor storage. Also, 1970 sets are notorious for producing toned coins, something about the original mint packaging.

The cent is 100% spot on with its toning pattern. I own and have traded/sold for probably 20 different 1970S rainbow toned coins. I'd like to see pictures of the cent out of that old mint holder. It should have some color to it unless the toning advanced too far - which it might have if your pictures are accurate.

Here's the highest grade one I have:
