I picked a few nickel rolls this week & found almost nothing except this oddity in the middle of photo. the outer casing of the coin is gone. does anyone know how this happened & is there a remote chance of some value ?
It looks like environmental damage from being buried. As Coinfrog said, nickels aren't plated, but rather a solid alloy of 75% copper and 25% nickel. Chemical corrosion can cause them to appear copper-colored.
