*** Edited by Staff to clarify topic title. Titles are important! ***The biggest question I have is how do you get them back into coin rolls after you check a whole box? By hand? Many banks don't have coin counters, Do you all find banks that have them and do it that way or by time consuming hand?

I took the 9+% hit from coin star a few times now I've saved over $1000 in change (mostly quarters) and going to start my daughter a savings account at a bank that accepts and has a change counter.

There are a couple of viable options. You just have to decide which might work best for you.
1. Take them to CoinStar type of machine and dump them in. You will get a voucher to turn in to the store for cash. This service will cost you between 10=13% of total.
2. Ask bank for paper rolls ( will be flat open end rolls, no cost. and count and roll them yourself. No Cost. But most time consuming.
3. Buy a bag of penny rolls from a Dolar Store. These will have one end closed making it a lot easier to roll.
4. Use some kind og measuring device, such as the tubes that come with a coin counting product so the counting part can all but be eliminated. It might cost you several dollars to purchase but will be the quickest, with the closed end rolls. I'm only guessing on tyhe tube cost as I have had mine for a number of years and haven't had to buy any for some time.
Hope this helps.

Altec12 hit on it... ask your bank teller, most will gladly hand over paper rolls for you to fill (so they won't have to). Then, return the filled rolls (for more)! to the CCF!

I roll them myself using wrappers provided by my bank--I'm on good terms with the tellers.

I have the plastic rollers that you fill to the line, and then slide the paper onto the roll inside the tube.

I look though one roll take out the ones I want to keep or look closer at and replace them with new junk cents. No need to count. Roll em take back to the bank

to CCF. Long ago my bank would give me the flat wrappers for free, but they would never give me enough. At some point I got tired of that and started buying boxes of them from ebay or Amazon. When I looked through rolls of cents I would go through 5 or 10 rolls at a time, pick out the keepers and replace them with ones I already found to be spenders and wrap them up to be returned. John1

It seems buying coins in bulk from ebay would get very expensive compared to a bank. Thanks for all the ideas, will go over them again and try some of them.

Just go to Coinstar, dump them in by the box and get the 0% gift card option.

Quote: Just go to Coinstar, dump them in by the box and get the 0% gift card option. It was what I used to do. Would get a gift card for the store I was in since I was already there to buy stuff.

Yes that sounds great actually, when you get the gift card say in a Walmart is that good to spend in the same store? More important do they charge you for the counting or is it free then?

You could roll them and spend on gas, snacks or whatever. I could spend 20 to 30 rolls daily, at least. They're always happy to get the change.
