I was going thru a pick basket at one of the local antique malls the other day and found a nice 1949 Canadian dime. among a lot of other old world coins. I purchased a dozen various coins from the basket. I just now sat down with them to put them into 2x2's and discovered that The 1949 dime has a nearly 180 deg rotated die. was the coin minted that way or do I really have a nice error coin here? I estimate the rotation to be between 170 and 175 deg.

Wow...it sounds like the 10c is rotated enough to almost resemble a US dime's orientation?
Normal for this coin is "medal alignment" with the obverse/reverse orientated the same.
I'd say that's a significant error, and I'd guess it isn't common.
Canadian errors are less documented than US coins, and I couldn't find any info.

Well I couldn't find anything either. The reverse orientation is exactly opposite of that of a US dime. I guess the best way to explain it is that when you flip over the piece, the reverse is then upside down.

Hmm...if the reverse orientation is of your 10c is opposite a US dime, that's normal for a Canadian coin--and it's called "medal alignment"

Yes, on Canadian coinage, when one side is rightside up, turning the coin over the picture on that side will also be rightside up.

Hello,
just found your 10 cent thing...
if it is rotated, perhaps you should contact Bill cross in Toronto.
he is the publisher of the Charlton guide...OR, send it to ICCS in Toronto for grading... and mention the rotation. otherwise they might miss it...
have never heard of a rotated 10 c 1949...however, there are other canadian coins which have NOT yet been discovered as obvious Varieties. I will post later as a new subject.
