to the CCF! None of the gouges or scratches seen on this coin could have been caused during the strike. As noted, this is most likely a "Parking Lot Coin." It was face down on the surface that caused the damage while the reverse was in contact with something "soft" like a tire. That's why the reverse is normal.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

Quote: road rash error (my term). could possibly be a recognized term? Maybe just road rash. I wouldn't want to give the impression that it's a mint error.

I had road rash once when I crashed my bike on a wet and oil soaked road made of old dead coral in Bermuda once. My arms from the elbow to my wrist looked a lot like that coin up above.

I had a similar experience I couple years ago when I hit a pothole going down a hill. It ripped through one of my favorite shirts. Knowing what it's like, I don't envy that coin!

I too crashed on my motorcycle, quite a long time ago. I pretty much did a swan dive into a railroad track. Not much road trash - but a LOT of broken bones, and several surgery's. Maybe this coin got away pretty easy.
