Found this Penny when going through my change.

Looks like it's been double struck on front.
Back looks normal to me.

Any help identifying what kind of error it is would be very helpful.

This is what we call a "parking lot coin." Just damage, sorry.

to the CCF!

None of the gouges or scratches seen on this coin could have been caused during the strike.

As noted, this is most likely a "Parking Lot Coin." It was face down on the surface that caused the damage while the reverse was in contact with something "soft" like a tire. That's why the reverse is normal.

Maybe just road rash. I wouldn't want to give the impression that it's a mint error.

I had road rash once when I crashed my bike on a wet and oil soaked road made of old dead coral in Bermuda once. My arms from the elbow to my wrist looked a lot like that coin up above.

I had a similar experience I couple years ago when I hit a pothole going down a hill. It ripped through one of my favorite shirts. Knowing what it's like, I don't envy that coin!

I too crashed on my motorcycle, quite a long time ago. I pretty much did a swan dive into a railroad track. Not much road trash - but a LOT of broken bones, and several surgery's. Maybe this coin got away pretty easy.
