My limited experience tells me it is AU. Are the scratches just marked as "details," or do they affect the grading otherwise?

Thanks

Date is 1861, not 1964.

I'm certainly not a expert on these either but to my eye your very safe with grading it AU, perhaps better.
Someone with more knowledge on these will show up with their opinion I'm sure.

Cheers, Bill

AU or AU+. Nice coin. The coin is fine the way it is. Just put it in a holder to keep air and moisture out of it. It would cost too much to have it graded & cert's and that would eat into any profit you would get. I don't think that it's a "detail" coin.

Certainly AU - a wee bit of wear around the eye and some of the very high points on the reverse but that's about it. Some eye appeal on that sucker as well - the colour and balance are beautiful. Really nice coin!

Wonderful mahogany color. Not less than AU-58 (Sheldon).

Thanks all. Sorry about the date mixup. It's what I get for not focusing on one thing at a time.
The grading process is tough, yet interesting. Half the time I can't see the stuff y'all point out. Makes me feel either blind, or just not cut out for it.

I fixed that for you.

I agree with almost uncirculated.
I don't think that small scratches that don't detract from the eye appeal affect the grade that much but they are a sign of likely circulation.
