Last year I bought and went through a US Mint bag of 2020 P&D Kennedy halves. I noticed the lips on the some of the P coins had "indents" on them. At the time I was and still am very new to collecting and after several... I'm sure this is something moments that turned into rather disappointing results... I decided not to post this find. However, now a year later and just as new to collecting, I have to know if this is anything. Out of the bag I pulled 12 halves with the EXACT same marks in the EXACT same location, this to me rules out a ricochet and PMD. What do you think? Does this qualify as a DDO?    |

Why would it make it a DDO? The marks on incuse on the coin. If it were a die issue, then the areas would be raised, not incuse. All the other devices are normal sized. So it would not be a doubled die. On the second images with the red circles. Why did you not mention these? These are contact marks to the right of the lower circle on the same plane. (5 of them) If they are on the other coins, the coins when through the same event that damaged them. Doubled dies show a spread on the devices. |

I did not mention the other marks because they are obvious damage from being banged around in the minting process, you can see the shinny gouge from contact which you do not see in the marks I am referring to. I guess you are all MISSING the FACT that ALL 12 COINS HAVE THE SAME EXACT MARKS IN THE SAME EXACT PLACE. The likelihood that 12 coins out of 100 have the EXACT SAME MARKS IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE rule out "RANDOM DAMAGE" from the minting process or MD. you would have better odds winning poerball 7x in a row with the same numbers, why because 12 coins out of 100 is such a LOW sample size. This is a minting error of some kind, while it may not be a DDO, it is clearly not MD. |

If the die is loose during striking, every coin struck from it could show some MD from the die shifting either during the strike or the ejection of the coin. I believe this is MD as well. |

Looks like the size and the location of the indents vary slightly. You said they were in a bag so maybe just a remarkable coincidence that those 2 areas were more susceptible to hits from the other coins edges? That's all I got......

@Rothery, chapeau you was faster then me tipping. I look at the photos and over sloped and give 4 different position and also different deepness. Must be something else.
