Aloha Friday everyone.

I'm neither the lucky seller (lucky to have owned it) or the well healed and lucky buyer (good for them on many levels) but this MS-67 1795 Half Dime is some serious eye candy for what it is. This post is just to acknowledge and enjoy the specimen. Thanks. Hammer drops on Sunday. Good luck finding some pennies in the couch...

Contrary to the term "eye candy", do not try to eat it with your eye, you will only hurt your eye... And the coins feelings.

Very nice piece, one of the best official circulating colonial coin designs imo.

Something I don't understand with coins like this one: it sold in '04, '15, '19, and now '21. I don't understand why these high value pieces change hands so quickly. If you like it enough to put $200k into it, I'm surprised it only stays in your collection for a few years. Am I crazy?

My guess is it's being traded by investment portfolios moreso than collectors and it's just a financial tool for capitalists.

Possibly a dealer or collector chasing Auction bills that are coming due. You see dealers constantly swapping inventory and the same coins keep popping up for sale due to just that very reason. In fact I was just re-watching a video on coin auctions that explains this very thing happening - a coin that keeps coming up for sale at various auctions. It's a good watch for anyone interested in coin auction firms and how they run from an insider. In this case it's one of my favorite speakers/teacher; John Kraljevich along with my friend Mark Borckardt.

The relevant bit comes up at 13:17 in to the video, though the whole video is very good.

B E A utiful! Interesting to see what it goes for this time around.

Agreed with Collects82. May very well have been purchased by an avid collector, but was ultimately a means to an end. As it was with Brent Pogue.
