I have a 1986 Silver Eagle in a PCI holder which has the traditional PCI toning. Reading through previous posts and conversations about PCI holder toning, we could go back and forth on the natural vs. artificial toning discussion.

Coins similar to this have crossed over to PCGS as acceptable natural toning. Since this is the first year of issue for the ASE, I am looking to get this one into a new holder, either PCGS or NGC for my slabbed type set.

My question is - do I leave the coin in the current PCI holder to show the provenance or do I break it out and put it in a flip for submission? Will PCGS/NGC/ANACS accept the slabbed coin or will they send it back to me?

Thanks!

I've heard (IE, not my personal experience) that you can send it in in the PCI holder, and from there you have a 50/50 chance of it straight grading. As with any submission, it'll be a coin toss. (pun intended)

Thank you for your reply, Beefer518.

I'm thinking if I can submit it in the holder it will provide evidence that it toned in the holder. Now whether or not that is acceptable as natural toning is another question.

PCI holder is MS70 which of course means absolutely nothing but if it can cross at MS66 or MS67, then it would be well worth it.
