Is that damage I see all around the ear, or is that damage to the holder?

The Lincoln is not a proof I wish it was. And yes the damage is on the head just behind the ear, I think it may be some hits from other coins that is kind what it looks like. I want to get it out of that 2x2 and try to get some better pictures
