I know it is not a key date or anything but it is one of the nicer grades I have seen online other then the selective few higher MS+ examples on ebay.

Was curious what you guys would grade this one at?

The coin when put in the right natural lighting has nice lustre/shine and under a microscope the obverse and reverse has a nice woody effect on the surface.

@SPP-Ottawa - can you expand on why you say cleaned? With copper is the sort of 'reverse' halo' that you see here - where there is more toning in the peripheral devices of the obverse than in the open fields - is that evidence of past cleaning? The reverse does not look cleaned to me - the contrast is also suspicious....

Thank you guys, I think I need to work on my grading skills a bit. I knew the surfaces were somewhat suspect but I assumed it was just toning from the coin being in a Whitman folder for a while.

Some coins I have a hard time recognizing when they have been cleaned vs just being old.

Silver101 - the 'shine' of the obverse portrait and open fields adjacent to it, yet the protected areas are not as bright. What you are seeing on the obverse is when cleaned or polished surfaces begin to retone. You are also correct in that the reverse is not cleaned.

These years are well struck, sometimes the tips of the maple leaves on the reverse provide a good indication of wear.
