Found this 1944S Penny and it appears to have Doubling in the Date so I'm wondering if it is DDO or ?

I can't quite tell from the photos whether it is Machine Doubling or simple damage but the anomaly on the date has reduced the design elements. Were there hub doubling present the numerals of the date would be augmented in size. This is damage in one form or another.

On the doubled dies that year, a lot of them are class 6 doubled dies. Enlarging the 944 on them. The devices are normal sized with contact marks on the areas you are looking at. The DDOs look more like this:

Note the strong spread on the last three digits. Look at Variety Vista, you can get more of a better ball park view of seeing what to look for on these doubled dies:

So if you have a lot of coins (like in a full roll) you might check the sites to see what to look for. That way you an better idea, what areas to look at. Same for reverses as well. Better to prepare the brain before the search, than to pass up on what you don't know yet to look for? The only expense in some time. If you were going out look for gold, would you prepare on what to look for after you came home, or before you went? Know what to look for first, and then find it. You will speed up the process of searching a lot faster.

CoopHome: How can you speed up your searching for varieties, and what to do if you have a roll of coins that are the same date/mintmark. Prepare for the road ahead.
