Not knowing a terrible lot about Canadian coinage I found this 2005 Canadian cent while roll hunting. It is non magnetic and weighs 2.7 grams. My question is about the no mintmark. Is this normal for this particular coin not to have a mintmark? Canadian friends, insight please!

The 2005 comes with a P and without. But the P is not a mint mark it just means it is steel plated. So you have one that is zinc - non magnetic and one that is magnetic.

Thank you, so if it has the P and non magnetic then that is what to look for, correct?

Normal 2005 Variations:

2005 - Non-Magnetic (Copper Plated Zinc)
2005 P - Magnetic (Copper Plated Steel)

What to look for regarding Mules for 2005:

2005 - Magnetic (Copper Plated Steel) - Suppose to be zinc
2005 P - Non-Magnetic (Copper Plated Zinc) - Suppose to be steel

The "P" below the queen stands for "Plated" and can be found on Canadian pennies that are Copper Plated Steel and should be magnetic.
