Buffalo Nickel No Date And No E Pluribus Unum ?

Zereshk New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 05/08/2021 3:53 pm Hello, I am an absolute novice here, and am only posting because I came upon a few coins while digging in the garden and was wondering about the Buffalo nickel I found. I washed the dirt off with water, and the color is quite reddish. My main question is why doesn't it have E Pluribus Unum on the buffalo side? My cursory internet search tells me that it should have that. Also, it seems undated. Just curious if there's an expert out there who might tell me its rough age for fun. Many thanks! lcutler Pillar of the Community United States 1657 Posts	Posted 05/08/2021 4:11 pm I can definitely see E PLURIBUS UNUM just over the bison's back. The date wore badly on these, and the corrosion on yours only made matters worse. Nickels take on this reddish color when buried in the ground. Closest I can come in dating it is late 1913 to 1938. fortcollins Pillar of the Community United States 3646 Posts	Posted 05/08/2021 7:15 pm First, I played with your photos a bit, and was able to narrow the search a bit. I cannot see any evidence of a mint mark, so your coin was minted in Philadelphia. Even without a readable date, the design of the left ribbon narrows the possibilities to 1926, 1927, 1928, 1929, 1930, 1934, 1936, or 1937. All are common dates, and any could be possible.
