My partner has had this coin in her possession for ages but has never been able to identify it. It's 18mm in diameter, has a very worn bust on one side and what I think is a grape palm on the other and a trace of the letters N T (there's possibly an A too). I've thought it may date back to Herod Antipas and Judea but surely it can't be that old?

I'm pretty sure this is the Silphium plant....Maybe a photo of the obverse might help more...Probably Zeus.

You sure about that being a silphium plant, Paul? Sure looks more like a palm tree with dates. My first thought is Seleucid, maybe Tyre mint. But no time to track it down.

Home now, and getting a better look.

Yes, looks like ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟY in the left reverse field. Seleukid, from Tyre. But whether Antiochos III or IV, I'm not sure. While I believe that Demetrios I and II had similar reverses from Tyre, I don't think the visible legend is ΔHMHTΡIOY (for Demetrios)...

Thanks very much for all your help. Having the coin in front of me and looking at the references provided, I'd go towards IV rather than III. We're thrilled to have a coin that's over 2,000 years old. Thanks again everyone..
