Okay, so my son handed me this coin and said,"I know you like a challenge, Mom." I of course accepted and identified this coin as being from Iran, 250 Rials. Then, the date stumped me until I remembered they use Farsi in Iran, while I was looking for Arabic numbers. So, I finally got the correct date (1379 I think) and now I've run into another question:

Is this a date from the Jalali calendar or the Hijri calendar? I'm leaning toward Jalali but don't want to guess. Can anyone officially tell me the date of this coin? I tried to bounce the flash so the date has good illumination in the pic.

This 250 Iranian Rials dated SH 1379 (2000), KM# 1262. Iran uses the Malay-Persian number system.

The answer to your question is "Jalali calendar", also known as the Iranian or Solar Hejira calendar. Iran has used this calendar since the takeover of Reza Shah in 1925 AD.
