Solid at MS63 might squeak into MS64.

average sharp strike for a 97(P). luster broke on cheek based on photo however surface preservation is AVG+. eye appeal is AVG to AVG+. the coin wont make MS65 so priced at $101 its at full retail for a MS64
Rest in Peace

My favorite enigma in the entire Morgan series. How did a late (post-depression) date with comparatively low mintage avoid getting Pittmanned and have such a ridiculously high survivorship rate? (Two bags in Laverne Redfield's hoarder-house basement certainly helped the supply.)

Most 1897 Morgans have an ugly gun metal gray appearance. Yours is eye-pleasing.

I'm at MS-64 here. The scuffs on the chin and long NW-SE scratch on the cheek put the obverse in the MS-63-64 range. The reverse has some light rim dings, two contact marks east of the arrowheads, and a healthy scar on the eagle's breast. The reverse is consistent with MS-64. I think the light frost and nice luster eye-appeal it to MS-64.

I like this one. Fair price for a decent 1897.

MS-63 I think due to the chin scratches and the hit on the cheek
