1978 quarter with some type of mark in the T in LIBERTY I'm new to this coin business just curious as to if I found an error? There is also something on the back rim of the same quarter almost in the same area opposite sides. Any ideas?

I think the mark by the T is where part of the rim was nearly shaved off and pushed back in towards the middle of the coin. The damage on the reverse matches where the coin got caught/shoved/pinched into something. Would not be a mint error.

I agree. Looks like a PSD coin now.

That couldn't happen during the striking of the coin
so that means it is damage, no matter how it happened.

Given the photos posted, the obverse feature looks like moved metal--the result of a circulation hit. Not an error.

Sharper pics would help, but I'll say PMD as well.
