@chip, your close-up images are a little bit out of focus or pixelated, but I can see enough I think to say that you have some Machine Doubling on the date.

Guessing this is just Machine Doubling, but sharper images needed.

On the top of the 'U' on UNITED, that is extreme die wear. But Machine Doubling was very common on the 1968-1972 cents. So much so that in 1973 they tried to eliminate it with a stronger strike. When you look at these cents, you will note they have a higher rim. Possible logic? Perhaps a taller rim would prevent the MD. It helped, but in 1974 the strike was back to the normal again and they must have figured out something better, as it was not as bad for a while, but MD always comes back. (Stronger on larger coins more often on the reverses)

If you are seeing double on your coin, what do you see on the real DDO?

It's not just about the date. Check the Liberty and the Motto as well. Forget looking at the date.
