I'm Seeing Doubling In This 1969 S Lincoln Penny But Not Sure If It's MD?

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 05/13/2021 10:31 am On the top of the 'U' on UNITED, that is extreme die wear. But Machine Doubling was very common on the 1968-1972 cents. So much so that in 1973 they tried to eliminate it with a stronger strike. When you look at these cents, you will note they have a higher rim. Possible logic? Perhaps a taller rim would prevent the MD. It helped, but in 1974 the strike was back to the normal again and they must have figured out something better, as it was not as bad for a while, but MD always comes back. (Stronger on larger coins more often on the reverses) Report this Post to the Staff
