I just recently learned about the Henning counterfeit nickels and I have been searching all over to get some answers with no luck. I understand the most common is the 1944 no "P" and also the diagnostic mark with the "looped R" But what about the 1939, 1946,1947, and 1953. What other diagnostic marks should I be looking for? I am told that they are usually over weight (5.4-5.5grams) and often have a grainy or mushy appearance. I am also told that some do not exhibit the telltale "Looped R". Can anybody post diagnostic pictures of these dates for future reference? I have no idea what I am lookin for.

Use the gray SEARCH tab at the top of the page and enter "Henning".

Results should show you four or five links to threads regarding Henning nickels with information that will be of help to you.

This is one of the better threads....

WesternSky, thank you I had just finished reading that thread before noticing your courteous reply. I'm making notes for future reference. While searching the web for answers I cam across another link (this forum will not allow me to post it) but it claimed to be a newly discovered Henning, possibly that missing 6th die and the date was 1954. It had that familiar hole in the front leg of the R and a large die crack from the dome of Monticello to the rim at C 12:30
