Hello there, I require the help of anyone out there who can assist.

I was given this coin quite a while ago, I have no idea where it comes from - I assume Britain since it seems to say Britania, but I have no clue on that.

Anyway, the pictures are attached, although they really are extremely faded, no date as far as I can tell because of this.

Any help at all would be great.

Hi, this is definitely a 1806 George III Halfpenny (with an outline of Britannia there). The head you see there is of George III.

It is a copper coin minted at the Soho Mint in Birmingham by Matthew Boulton.

Unless the halfpennies back then were bigger than pre-decimal pennies I think it would be something else, as this is a lot bigger than the usual half penny.

George the third is definitely who that is, so thank you very much.

What's the size? It's probably an 1806 or '07 penny.

@SnowyCollects actually the halfpennies in the early 19th century were much bigger than the later ones of the 20th centuries. Perhaps it is best to measure your coin to confirm the size. You can view the dimensions of the 1806 George III Halfpenny here: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces4212.html

The weight is 18 grams, so heavier than what that link says.

I think it also might be larger, around three centimetres or so.

Definitely a penny, then. I couldn't tell you which years without better pictures, but the date is likely worn fully off.

@snowy, you will see that I've moved your thread over to the UK section of CCF in an effort to get more eyeballs on it. Improved pics would definitely help us to more positively identify this coin. Thx.

Yes, if the weight is 18 grams then it is most likely an 1806 George III Penny - also minted by Matthew Boulton at the Soho Mint in Birmingham.

Thank you Spence, and thank you everyone for giving me a better idea of what it is.

I would provide better pictures but the coin is so faded not much is there to see. I believe it was found on a beach a few years back.
