This is just Post Mint Damage, or PMD. Nothing in the minting process would have caused this. The coin was, most likely, perfectly normal when it was struck. All of the anomalies you see here happened after it left the mint.

I agree, not a mint error. Just terrible post mint damage ( PMD). Keep searching!
