hmm so I was looking over this stuff an I thought to myself do I really need to have the payment go straight in to my bank account after ebay's fee of course, basically cutting out paypal as the middleman? only problem I see here is that I already allow people to do bank transfer so what is the point of them asking me again to update my account repeatedly.

There no one to actually contact (does anyone know if they actually have a number in Australia that can be called) about this so I thought I ask here

It's all about ebay deciding that transaction fees should go into their own over-filled pocket instead of Paypal. I assume buyers will now pay ebay instead of Paypal and ebay will transfer the money into your account (minus their fees and exchange rate surcharge). Am sure ebay will soon abolish Paypal as a preferred payment method. You need to ensure ebay has your bank details, not just the buyers.

Kind of ironic that ebay made Paypal a compulsory payment option when they were getting the transaction fees. Now that ebay doesn't own Paypal and misses out on the transaction fees they are keen to get rid of it as a payment option.

I suspect it's more to do with tax compliance. Some sellers stopped selling and I suspect it could be a reason

I dont like the idea of ebay having total access to my bank account.
Any problems then you have to call them up.
If you actually get to speak to a real person then it will be someone with a very heavy accent with poor english language skills who doesn't give a stuff.

Yes,more Big Brother tactics as they kill the Golden Goose.
When this Covid thing is over I'm sure we will have Trademe or similar in Oz.

Open a separate Acct. Echi.,just for ebay.
I've had a debit card Acct. just for Ebay/PayPal for years now, works well,if I buy I transfer money in,if I sell I withdraw it as soon as it appears.

Yes ebay is, again, on their pick pocket's quest which could be to do with their guarantee of a refund when there's any disputes about payments not being received by sellers, or item(s) not being as described.

When I started selling on ebay in November 2004, the FVF was only 5.25% on a sale up to $75 and then plus only 2.75% for any sale over $75. So when I sold anythng for eg. $100 my FVF was 5.25% up to the $75 then 2.75% on the $25 balance. No 10% ebay fee on my posatge charge either.

ebay and humanity both lived in mutual harmony

Listing for sellers then were; 30c for auction items starting at 99c, 50c up to $19.99 and 75c for items up to $75, and $1.50 for auction items over $75.

I'm glad to say that over the last 10 years or so, whenever I bought something and was happy with it, the seller generally put their email or PO box/ home address on ther back of the parcel sent.

I was able to contact the sellers directly via email or by sending my email address to the seller's return address, thus bypassing ebay's listing, FVF and Paypal fees and got a better deal which benefited both the seller and myself.

Who wants to be robbed by having to pay 10.9 % FVF and then 2.6 % + 30c in Paypal fees plus ebay's listing fees ?

And. of course, let's not forget ebay's 10% on any postage charged by the seller.

Just wait until ebay decides to handle all shipping (and fees) internally.

Doubt it. ebay is just too big in terms of buyers and sellers. I think Trademe started around the same time as ebay so it wasn't competing with the behemoth that ebay is today. There were several sites in Australia including Oztion that tried to compete with ebay but the number of members was too small compared to ebay so that both buyers and sellers were put off. I remember looking for some items on both sites. 10+ available on ebay, zero or only a few on Oztion and the cheaper price was on ebay. Gave up using Oztion. Similarly, ebay's forage into China was a flop because of China's existing e-commerce platform was already too big for ebay to effectively compete against. Shame though.
I would however like to see some sort of listing fee re-introduced. Would stop the "rare 1988 $2" scammers and those who list items at 100x market value and repeat the ad for eternity. Would clean up the junk littering the searches.

I agree 100%,Ebay listings as far as Coins go are a cluttered mess the last few years, rubbish Coins running endlessly.
All they have to do is go back to a nominal lising fee like they had when ebay started in Oz back in 1999/2000.
50c would do it.
As far as Trademe goes they were looking at the Oz. market when Hockey introduced the GST on O/S purchases,so back to the drawing board for them then Covid hit.
They were looking at adding a Australian section so there should be no GST you would think.
Oz version of Chinese marketplacers could also be an option you would think down the track.

I used ebay for the first time in ages - set up the bank details - sold an item and they took 13.4%. Finished with ebay after that

I hate that global tracking thing. I just avoid as a buyer any listings with that.
